Established in 1910 under Royal Charter ‘to promote the improvement of ships and all things that specifically appertains to them’, RINA (Royal Institution of Naval Architects) is the internationally recognised professional body for those involved in maritime design and engineering.
With over 11,000 members in 93 countries, all having passed a requirement for academic qualification and/or professional experience, RINA membership offers three grades of peer-reviewed membership in recognition of capabilities, experience and on-going continuous professional development.
The NZ Division has over 200 members around the country and is working with academia and industry here and overseas to develop and maintain a career path from college, university and into the workplace. Membership is open to students, post-graduates or those active in the marine design and engineering fields. Not limited to hull design, those involved in sails/spars, propulsion/steering, structures/materials or any other related field are welcome to apply.
Whether your interests lie in the recreational field, from yachts/launches to the America’s Cup, or the commercial, from mussel barges to freighters or warships, RINA (NZ) will be happy to help and discuss further how to become qualified, or how engaging a RINA member could benefit your project.
